The relatives and friends of TV star Jimmy Savile are being offered counselling, to come to terms with the aftermath of the scandal.


Following several inquiries into the allegations involving the disgraced TV presenter, close friends have been quizzed by police and independent investigators as part of determining the extent of events and what, if anything, anyone knew.

They are now being offered counselling through Victim Support, which usually deals with victims of crime.

One friend, who knew the star for more than four decades, said: “People have asked me how did you not know? “Well, none of us knew and neither did anyone official, so it seems.

“Many of us are still finding it hard to believe what has happened.

“He never spoke about anything like this, it has left us all shell-shocked and sickened that he was not the man we thought he was.”

The friend said that the counselling through Victim Support had been offered after being questioned about his involvement with hospitals in Leeds.

A spokesman for Victim Support did not comment on the situation, but the charity’s website states: “If you’ve been a victim of any crime or have been affected by a crime committed against someone you know, we can help you find the strength to deal with what you’ve been through.”

* Former BBC radio producer Ted Beston will face no further action, after he was arrested by detectives investigating the Jimmy Savile abuse scandal.

The ex-Radio 1 worker was arrested in December on suspicion of sexual offences, which he immediately denied, and today police said there was not enough evidence to support a prosecution.
