Donald Levine, the Hasbro toy company executive credited as the father of G.I. Joe for developing the world's first action figure, has died. He was 86.

He died of cancer early Thursday at Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island, his wife, Nan, said. They were just about to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary.

Levine shepherded the toy through design and development as Hasbro's head of research and development. He and his team came up with a 29.2-centimeter articulated figure with 21 moving parts, and since the company's employees included many military veterans, it was decided to outfit the toy in the uniforms of the Army, Navy, Marines and Air Force, with such accessories as guns, helmets and vehicles.

Levine, who served in the Army in Korea, said he got the idea for the moveable figure as a way to honour veterans.

G.I. Joe hit the shelves in time for the 1964 Christmas shopping season and soon became a big seller at $4 apiece.

"Don Levine and his team took it from a good concept to a great concept," said Alan Hassenfeld, Hasbro's former CEO whose father, Merrill, oversaw G.I. Joe's development when he ran the company.

G.I. Joe remained popular until the late 1960s, as opposition to the Vietnam War intensified and parents shied away from military-related toys. Hasbro countered in 1970 by introducing "Adventure Team" G.I. Joes that played down the military connection. Into the '70s, G.I. Joes featured "lifelike hair" and "kung-fu grip" and were outfitted with scuba gear to save the oceans and explorer's clothing for discovering mummies.

Hasbro said in a statement that Levine's "influence on the toy industry was profound" as his team developed the concept of an action figure.

"His work forever changed the way kids play with toys, and in particular helped birth the G.I. Joe brand which has been a part of the American fabric for 50 years," the company said.

Over the decades, G.I. Joe has spawned comic books, cartoons, two movies starring Channing Tatum, and a G.I. Joe Collector's Club and its annual convention — GIJoeCon — held in Dallas in April.

Levine's funeral will be held Sunday morning at Temple Beth-El in Providence. He is survived by his wife, three children and four grandchildren.

Its not just the tories and labour that are corrupt.
I worked for a firm of colicitors in Yeovil, and i saw some correspondence about and from a homosexual Lib/dem MP David Laws and his rent boys, Lib/DEm Simon Hughes admitted to hiring two young boys to go to bed with him at a time, and another Lib/dem MP had such low self steem that he paid schoolboys to urinate on him.
now i know there are some people who say well they went with rent boys so what ? but i believe we should be able to expect more from our political leaders, and the Lib/dem party threatened all the newspapers not to print thse stories and stood by these pervert MPs
But this same lib/dem party that stod by these men sacked baroness Jenny Tonge from the party for speaking out about
the plight of the palestinains, so we can see who pulls the strings of the libdems, this bare faced racism against Jenny Tonge cost them a lot of votes, and why support MPs who were buggering these small boys ?

I gather that it is a very small monirity of men who are homosexual,
but they have been very busy as it all comes out about just how many boys from orphanages etc
were used as sexual playthings over the years.
I knew a guy who was brought up in one and he said the boys knew that if they failed to complete the school work or misbehaved they would be buggered after school by a homosexual teacher, it was the accepted punishment

I've been re-reading Roald Dahls book "BOY", and Dahl vividly describes the sexual and physical abuse of a boy by the headmaster of Repton school, Geoffrey Francis Fisher, who went on to be the Archbishop of Canterbury.

"Roald dahl was said to be one of churchills black magic team in W W II"

A lot of unusual people have been caught up in MI5, Roald Dahl doesn't strike me as being the sort of man that would have liked to get involved in black magic, it seems a bit out of character from the books he wrote for him to abuse children in rituals, he comes accross more of a childrens champion to me, he seems to be very angry about the goings on at his school!

Thanks for the link

New York City Police and federal authorities have arrested at least 70 people in what’s being billed as one of the largest online child pornography busts ever.

According to the Associated Press, among those arrested are a rabbi, a Boy Scout leader, a little league baseball coach, a nurse, and a police officer, with most the arrests originating in the New York City area. In addition to charging dozens of men with exploting and photographing children, one New Jersey woman was also detained for allegedly using Skype to place her child in “compromising positions.”

The arrests come at the conclusion of a five-week long investigation carried out by NYPD officers in cooperation with federal officials at Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Investigators set up a website that permitted individuals to share illicit images of children, and were able to begin identifying suspects when they uploaded pictures to the internet.

As reported by ABC News, the arrests allowed law enforcement officials to confiscate numerous hard drives and other devices, and police believe even more arrests are on the way once they are able to sift through all the data. While the majority of the arrests were made in New York City and its suburbs, the hard drives are expected to lead to “hundreds” of others.

Specifically, police confiscated 600 desktops, laptops, tablets, smartphones, and more, amassing a total of 175 terabytes of storage. Speaking with NBC New York, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children said it will also be aiding police by analyzing the images in an attempt to identify potential victims.

“We refer to each of these images as a crime scene photo because that’s exactly what they are,” the group’s CEO John Ryan said.

Speaking generally, police said the latest bust is further proof that technological progress has made it easier for consumers of child porn to share and acquire illicit images, and people should be aware that the illegal activity could be carried out by anyone.

Using and distributing child porn “is not something that is just done by unemployed drifters who live in their parent’s basement,” the ICE’s James Hayes said to the AP. “If this operation does anything, it puts the lie to the belief that the people who do this are not productive members of society.”
